All-on-4 Dental Implants

If you are facing total or massive tooth loss and are weighing your options, All-on-4 dental implants provide new hope.

In the past, massive or total tooth loss was a life altering event. Either partial plate dentures or complete dentures were the only answer. Dentures were better than nothing, but there were numerous complications such as slippage, sores in the mouth from an ill fit, increased salivation, difficulty chewing and messy clean up to name a few. Another problem with dentures is that they did nothing to address the jaw bone deterioration that results from total tooth loss.

Dental implants changed everything. With dental implants, the dentist drills a hole in the jawbone where the original root would have been, and then inserts a titanium implant. As the body naturally heals, the jawbone integrates itself around the titanium implant, as if it were a natural tooth root. This process takes about two to four months. After the bonding process is complete, a porcelain crown is attached to the implant. It looks and feels like a real tooth. Eating, talking and brushing your teeth all feel and look like they did before. And because the jawbone reacts to the implant as it would a tooth root, bone deterioration does not take place.

Dental implants for single teeth are very simple and straight forward, however for massive or total tooth replacement the high cost of total replacement kept many people in their dentures, even after implants became available.

In normal procedures six to ten implants were needed to support fixed teeth. This was problematic for many patients. Then the All-on-4 breakthrough technique made it possible to do a total tooth replacement with just four to six  implants. Dentists found that by inserting the implant at a 45 degree angle, strength was drastically increased. Also, with the All-on-4 technique, crowns can be applied immediately rather than having to wait two to four months for the implant to heal.
